Drink Driving Arrests Healy O’Connor Solicitors Cork and Dublin

Criminal law and traffic law.

It was reported in the Irish Times today that there has been a huge drop in the number of people caught drink driving from this time last year. It seems there is a cultural shift in our thinking surrounding our love of drinking and the car. Please note that the alochol blood limit was reduced in October 2011 from 80 mg to 50mg per 100ml. That is a considerable drop and is catching a significant amount of people drink driving. Studies have shown that men between the ages of 23 and 32 driving late at night or early the next morning are most likely to be caught and people driving on Sunday mornings at abut 11am after drinking the night before form a whole new category of offenders.

Our advice in the first instance is obviously to be aware of the new limits and avoid putting yourself in such a situation where you will be caught drink driving.  If you do get caught drink driving you will need representation before the District Court because we believe it is not something you should handle yourself.
