Uninsured Drivers

Under Irish law, a driver must be insured if they are operating a motor vehicle. If you own a vehicle, you must certify that you have insurance before you can renew your registration.

If you drive a vehicle that is registered in Ireland without you or the owner having insurance, then you have committed the offence of driving uninsured. This is an offence punishable by a fine or a term of imprisonment.
