Penalty Points

A penalty point is a formal reprimand by the Garda that is endorsed on your driving licence that shows you are guilty of a specified driving offence. The penalty points system for driving offences was introduced in Ireland under the Road Traffic Act 2002.  Penalty points are recorded on your driving licence record which is held on the National Vehicle and Driver File operated by the Road Safety Authority.
